    HIV & AIDS

Kafanchan is a railway junction town that has a mobile population of traders, farmers and miners surrounded by several satellite mining and farming communities. It has been recognized as one of the hotspots for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. Long periods of absence by the mobile work force from their families may account for the high levels of reported cases of STDs.

There is still a high level of stigmatization as a result of low awareness. HIV tests, counselling, and treatment not readily accessible to those who require them. And the increasing number of adults dying of AIDS are leaving behind orphans without parental care, and possibly deprived of their basic rights to shelter, food, health, and education.

Fantsuam Foundation strives to mainstream HIV/AIDS in all of its projects through the identification of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), grandmothers and orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) as target beneficiaries, and through raising awareness on HIV/AIDS to its microfinance clients, health centre clients, staff and other stakeholders.
